A complete Working From Home (WFH) or Remote Working system should comprise much more than providing the worker with a Virtual Private Network (VPN) and a laptop, which is used in the same way as a PC in the office. This can be improved immensely.

 

A complete WFH system encompasses every stage in the process:-

 

  • the home network, its security, the devices used, and how they are used

 

  • the various internet connections, and optimising them for this particular task

 

  • the shared data and resources, and their location

 

Understanding why WFH requires a complete system, and one that might be different from the once-typical office network, lies in recognising the bandwidth and latency limitations of internet connections, and the VPNs which use them. They represent the system's heart.
